Alan Dorn plays Songs Without Words – 5th May 2023

How great to welcome Alan back to play for us at our Coronation Lunchtime Recital and Special Charity Lunch. The theme was Songs ‘Without Words’ and Alan played us pieces from Bach, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Chopin and Gershwin, with introductions to the pieces from each Composer. And we got an extra ‘encore’ piece at the end.

Rod Chilcot was host of the day for the recital (and he may get a job for life if he’s not careful).

Alan plays without music, and sometimes his eyes appear closed, but the music seems to flow down his arms and into his hands. There’s no great emotion in Alan’s face or body movements, as Rod commented, just a flicker now and then, but the combination of apparent serenity with the wonderful music flowing from his fingers creates a powerful image – a delight to listen to and to watch.
